| Because I had been complaining to him about a
crick in my neck, Bob told me that I could get a massage someplace in the
hotel. He was leaving for the US as he told me this, so he described the
location verbally. After work, I decided to try and find the place. It
wasn't as easy as I expected. I wandered down numerous dark hallways, up
darkened stairwells, in elevators that mysteriously skipped floors, and
back down darkened stairwells. After deciding to give up on the effort,
I suddenly popped out on a floor full of massage tables and little booths
for each one. Compared to all the other strange rooms I'd seen, it was
like walking into a California doctor's office. After my massage, I asked
this young lady to pose for a drawing. I don't think she wanted to sit
still because she kept getting up, but I gave her a huge tip and got my
first serious figure drawing of the trip. Right when I finished, her boss
came in and asked me to draw her also. I did, but it didn't come out as
well as I'd hoped, so I gave it to her and asked her to sit for another.
She left right after I gave her the drawing though, so I didn't get a chance
to fix the portrait. Starting with this drawing, I rarely made any more
landscapes for the rest of the trip. |
